Frankie Bunn’s six goals for Oldham – not even Lewandowski can beat that!

Robert Lewandowski may have bagged five record-breaking, quick-fire goals for Bayern Munich against Wolfsburg on Tuesday night, but football fans of a certain age will still remember an even better haul 25 years ago.

It was a League Cup tie, Littlewoods sponsored it in those days, and Oldham Athletic welcomed Scarborough to Boundary Park and that harsh plastic pitch.

Frankie Bunn was the main man on a night he’ll definitely never forget. He claimed a double-hatrick, six goals, during a 7-0 victory on 25 October 1989. Andy Ritchie cracked home a stunner too, with Bunn’s flick-on giving him the assist.

His six goals in one game is still a League Cup record as well.

But don’t take our word for it. You can watch all six Frankie Bunn goals here…
