Noughts and Crosses football practice

As Johan Cruyff once said: ‘you play football with your head, and your legs are there to help you’.

Well here’s a great noughts and crosses football practice to get players young and old thinking outside the box.

In this video, from JBFC Kids Football Coaching, the youngsters use the basics of the traditional ‘pen and paper’ game – also known as tic-tac-toe – but it’s played on the football pitch.

Rather than just work individually, this noughts and crosses football practice can also be played in teams so all the players need to stay alert. And when it’s their turn, it’s about speed of movement and thought to try and get three in a row in the game box before their opponents can.

Coaches can adapt this fun noughts and crosses football practice for their sessions and use any equipment they have. In this video, JBFC kids use different coloured bibs instead of noughts and crosses, and the game grid is made up using agility rings.

It’s a really fun drill for kids and adults to play in their football training sessions as you’ll see when you watch the video below.
