England face Portugal at Toulon Tournament

England Under-21s will meet Portugal, Guinea, Paraguay and Japan in the 2016 Toulon Tournament at the end of May.

Gareth Southgate’s team go head to head with Portugal in their opener on Thursday 19 May before taking on Guinea in Aubagne four days later.

Their Toulon Tournament campaign continues against Paraguay on 25 May and their final Group B game with Japan is on 27 May back in Toulon.

If England finish in the top two of the group they will go through to the Toulon Tournament final or third-fourth place play-off match on Sunday 29 May.

Group A involves hosts France, Mali, Bulgaria, Mexico and Czech Republic.

Last year saw England finish in fourth spot for the second successive campaign, when an Under-20 side competed in Toulon. They will be keen to add to their four Toulon Tournament titles in 1990, 91, 93 and 94, when future England stars including Alan Shearer, Steve McManaman, David James, Graeme Le Saux, Lee Sharpe, Jamie Redknapp and Chris Sutton all collected winners’ medals.

Most recently England finished 4th in the 2015 Toulon Tournament under the guidance Aidy Boothroyd.
