Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness has made his Capital One Cup Final prediction for Sunday’s meeting between the Reds and Manchester City, and hopes his heart rules his head.
The Anfield outfit have already stuffed City 4-1 this season but Souness, who knows a thing or two about winning the League Cup, believes Manuel Pellegrini’s are favourites to triumph at Wembley.
But after enjoying success in this competition on four occasions in the early 80s, he hopes his old club can lift it for a record ninth time and give Jurgen Klopp his first piece of silverware at Liverpool.
“Jurgen Klopp and his staff will be hoping this is the first of many trophies for them at Liverpool,” said Sky Sports pundit Souness.
“They will want to get that winning feeling, that winning taste. It’s the League Cup, they are going to Wembley and will need to perform under pressure, with the world watching.
“He’ll find out a lot about his players. And they have a great chance. City have a stronger group of players but that will mean nothing on the day, they are just names on a team sheet.”
He continued: “My head is telling me City and my heart is telling me Liverpool. City have shown a vulnerability that I didn’t think they had.
“They were my tip to win the league but I’m not sure they will do that now. But I hope when they turn up at Wembley, Liverpool have a really good day and City have an indifferent day.”
